An end to auto accident deaths and injuries due to blind spots when backing up? Rear View Cameras ar

We've all seen the tragic reports of children being run over and killed or seriously injured due to a parent backing over them because they did not see them in their mirrors. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) addressed this in a mandate that is now the law. It requires vehicle manufacturers to make all new vehicles that weigh less than 10,000 pounds with rear visibility cameras as of May 1, 2018. .

An average of 210 fatalities and 15,000 injuries are caused by back over crashes each year, according to the NHTSA,. Drivers using all three mirrors still cannot see anything in a blind spot behind their vehicles. Over half of those killed in back over accidents are children under 5 or adults 70 or older. The incorporation of rear visibility technology in vehicles will help reduce these tragic deaths. The NHTSA, requires rear visibility technology to expand the field of view to enable the driver to see or detect areas behind the vehicle in an effort to reduce death and injury resulting from back over incidents. The field of view must include a 10-foot by 20-foot zone directly behind the vehicle.
